Organizers offer for free a choice of urban tours in Madrid on Saturday
6 June 2009 afternoon. All the Urban Tours will start at 3:00 pm.,
finishing at 5:15 pm. aprox. 1.- Sustainable edification in Madrid. Visit to new sustainable buildings designed to save energy. Shuttle tour. 2.- The Science Campus at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Spain is making a wide effort to enlarge the investments in research and technology. The Campus of the Autonomous University of Madrid, 10 km from downtown, is an excellent example. Shuttle tour. 3.- Immigration in Madrid. Foreigners have reached 18 per cent of the population of Madrid. Some parts of downtown have dramatically changed their human and physical landscape. This tour includes the visit to two of the borough of Madrid with a larger percentage of immigrants: Lavapiés and Tetuán. On foot and subway tour. 4.- Public transportation and mobility in Madrid. Public transportation and good mobility are key elements of sustainability and good governance. These tour includes a visit to the headquarter of the Metro of Madrid, one of the largest subways in the world with more than 314 km (13 lines of subway and 3 lines of light metro). The tour also includes the Control Centre of Madrid Calle 30, the largest urban tunnel system in the world. Shuttle tour. 5.- The Golden Mile of the Art in Madrid. This tour (1,3 km) includes the Paseo del Prado, at the very hearth of the City, where are emplaced most of the emblematic art building in Madrid: Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Reina Sofía Centre of Art, Caixa-Forum. Also the historical Botanic Garden is in this avenue. In this tour there the new enlargements of the main Museums of the City will be visited . On foot tour.
